Our first MainStage production of the year is the award winning GODSPELL by famed composer of WICKED, Stephen Schwartz.
“Godspell” has been called one of Broadway’s most enduring shows of all time. It opened off Broadway on May 17, 1971 and via several transfers landed on Broadway, accumulating over 2600 performances. Beloved and endearing, Godspell has played in various touring companies, international venues and revivals ever since.
The structure of the musical is that of a series of parables, based on the Gospels of Matthew and Luke. Interspersed with a variety of modern rock, folk and Gospel music, “Godspell” is the timeless tale of friendship, loyalty and love as the parables of Jesus Christ come humanly and hearteningly to life. What would happen if Jesus of Nazareth walked into our theater today, 2014, and began teaching us how to love and how to forgive? This is that musical.
This production is for all ages, beliefs, religions and genders. It is a show that will leave you singing, dancing and rejoicing, no matter your spiritual, religious or personal beliefs.
